PTA Scholarship Opportunity!

Florida PTA is pleased to offer a total of four (4) scholarships, one each in the following categories:  University, Fine Arts, Community College, and Vo-Tech, to a student graduating in the 2012-2013 school year.  This is a one time (nonrenewable) award of $2,000.00 and will be awarded to a worthy student who is interested in getting a start in life through higher education.
This award is specifically for a student who wishes to pursue their education at a Florida University, Fine Arts School, Community College, or Vo-Tech.
Requirements for each student to apply for this scholarship include:
  • Graduate from a Florida High School in the 2012-2013 school year.
  • Be a member of their high school’s PTA/PTSA or the Sunshine State PTSA (PTA/PTSA must be in good standing).
  • Be a resident of the state of Florida.
  • Planning to continue their education in the 2013-2014 school year in the state of Florida at a University, Fine Arts, Community College or VoTech.
  • Fully complete the application (attached) and submit letters of recommendation, an essay, and copies of their official high school transcript, ACT and/or SAT scores.
Additional factors will be taken into consideration in selecting a winner (e.g. need, special circumstances, extracurricular activities and honors, etc.).
Deadline for all applications is February 1, 2013.  All applications must be postmarked by February 1, 2013, to be considered.

Scholarship Opportunity!

GCA Services Group will be awarding ten $1,000 scholarships to students pursuing a degree in Business or a business related field.

Requirements:
  • Seniors must be enrolled in a Duval County Public School
  • Minimum unweighted GPA of a 3.0
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Must provide examples of leadership ability
  • 1110 SAT or 25 ACT composite
  • 500-700 word essay (You may use Topic 1 or Topic 2)
    •  Topic 1 - Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
    • Topic 2 - What do you expect to learn while attending college?
  • Must be pursuing a degree in Business or a business related field

One male and one female may be nominated from each high school by their school counselor, Principal or Principal Designee.
Applications must be submitted before March 31st. Completed applications can be mailed to:

FSU Scholarship Opportunity!

Florida State University is pleased to present the application for the Service Scholar Program. The Service Scholar Program recognizes select incoming students with an outstanding record of community service and leadership, and who want to continue that commitment at FSU. The Program benefits include a scholarship valued at $2,400 per year for up to four years, exposure to a diverse group of individuals and social issues, an academic component, and support by an assigned faculty mentor.

Believe in Yourself Herff Jones scholarship


DA may nominate one senior who has shown exemplary leadership and academic success for the Herff Jones “Believe in Yourself” scholarship.

Criteria for scholarship winners will include the following:

·         Quantitative criteria: GPA, class rank, test scores, honors, activities on campus and hours/types of community service.  To view a sample of the quantitative section of the application, click here.

·         Qualitative criteria: Each student is asked to answer an essay question: "Please explain how a person believing in you has had a positive impact on your success.  What did he/she do and how did it help?"


The selection of winners is based strongly on leadership qualities. Academic records, standardized test results (ACT, SAT), school recommendations, work experience, outside interests and co curricular activities are also taken into consideration.

Art and Essay Contest

Istanbul Cultural Center at Jacksonville presents an exciting program for students and teachers in Jacksonville with the partnership of Florida State College, Duval County Public Schools and Istanbul Center of Atlanta. This program is geared towards an interdisciplinary approach to enhancing several core skills in students no matter what discipline they may study.

This year all the winner submissions in Jacksonville will compete in state wide contest and then winners of the FL state will compete in the Southeastern Regional Contest including the states of GA, AL, SC, FL, and TN.
