2023 - 2024 Academic Year Scholarship Opportunity

Hello and Happy New Year Counselors!

We, the Organization of Latino Actuaries (OLA), are inviting your advanced math students who are of Latine descent to apply to our 2023-2024 academic scholarship program. OLA will award academic scholarships up to $7,500 to students who are interested in pursuing the actuarial profession.

The actuarial profession is not well-known among high school students, so we have included some information for those who would like to learn more about our profession.

What is an Actuary?

Actuaries are business professionals who use statistical, mathematical, and financial methods to manage risk. This profession is typically listed among the top STEM careers, and fully credentialed actuaries can earn high salaries. Prospective actuaries typically pursue degrees in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, Economics, and/or related studies to prepare themselves for this career. For more information on the actuarial profession, check out https://www.beanactuary.org/.

What is OLA?

OLA is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to increase the number of Latine Actuaries by promoting the profession and providing guidance, mentorship and networking opportunities. For more information on OLA, visit us at https://www.latinoactuaries.org/.

Who is eligible to apply to the OLA Academic Scholarships?

OLA Academic Scholarships are open to all Latine high school seniors who will be enrolled in a 2- or 4-year program this fall. There are no GPA or major/minor requirements for most OLA programs, but students should demonstrate interest and/or commitment to pursue the actuarial profession. No letters of recommendation are required to apply.  In 2022, OLA awarded over $15,000 in scholarships to 7 high school seniors.

Whom can I contact if I have additional questions on the scholarship?

Please reach out to us at futurecandidates@latinoactuaries.org if you have any questions.

We appreciate your help in promoting our profession to your students.  Please let us know if you are able to share this scholarship with your students and if you have any questions. We hope to hear from you soon!
